| 1961 Body |
 |
After the driving season ended in
Western NY, it was time to start the restoration. I joined the NCRS
& WNYNCRS Corvette Clubs, purchased numerous reference guides, and
started to learn about restoring Corvettes. The 1961 was an original
Sateen Silver Corvette with Jewel Blue Interior. |
 |
I started the restoration by removing
all shinny metal parts and then started to remove the paint. |
 |
During the process of paint removal
it was discovered that the body was painted with Sateen Silver
lacquer and the coves were body color. 1961 was the last year for
the painted cove option. There was also green crayon markings behind
the passenger seat on the bulk head. "SILVER" |
|
There was some body panel repair
needed. I located an original GM front nose press molded panel and
replaced the damaged panel. The body had also had previous repairs
to the left front fender. This was also repaired. |
|
The left rear lower fender panel
needed to be replaced. George thought the 1961 once had winter
chains install on it's tires. The damage on the left panel was non
repairable, the was minor damage on the right rear panel that was an
easy repair. |
