George and Trudy Swoyer were the second
owners of the 1961 270-HP Corvette. George advertised the Corvette as a
good driver with an amateur restoration. The Jewel Blue 61 was an
original Sateen Silver with the Jewel Blue Interior. The car was very
original but in need of a complete restoration. |
 |
George is inviting Janet and I in
to inspect the 1961 prior to closing the sale. George was a very honest
man and the 1961 was a better car that George had advertised. |
 |
George and I are out for a test drive,
the car is awsum. |
 |
The deal is done and Janet and George is
securing the 61 to the trailer for the ride from reading Pa to Western
NY. |
 |
Stopping on the way home to check the tie
down straps. The drive home was amazing, "thumbs up" from every passer
buyer. |
 |
The 1961 is home! An inspection, new
battery and clutch and on the road we go. After a summer of fun, the 61
will under go a full body off restoration. |
 |
The original paint was Sateen Silver.
There was original paint in the trunk, under the convertible door and on
the lip on the under side of the hood. The word silver was written on
the bulkhead behind the passenger seat. |
 |
Restoration begins! After removing all
the stainless and chrome, the paint was chemically removed. Pleas view
the 1961 Fawn Beige restoration for processes. |
 |
Paint removal and body work. The right side of the
body was in very good condition. The left side showed signs of body
damage and I completely reworked the left front fender. |
 |
The Jewel Blue lacquer was very thin, you
could almost see the original Sateen Silver paint under the Jewel Blue.
Removal of the paint form the cove area confirmed that the cove paint
option was not on this 61. |
 |
After the removal of the paint and
completion of the body repairs, all parts that attach to the body to and
frame were disconnected. The body was then lifted from the frame using
two post lift, the lift works very well for this operation. |
 |
After cleaning and removing the black out paint, the
original inspection-identification paint markings were found on the
drive line and steering components . The paint markings were
photographed and placed on the restored steering and drive line parts.
There were no markings on the drive line or frame stamp part number. |
