The 3782461 casting number
was first used in 1961 and was the main reason for the increase
in horse power for the 1961 model year. There was experimental aluminum
heads for the 1960 model year that would have increased the horse power
for that model year, but problems with the aluminum head delayed it's
introduction and the 1961 version was changed to cast iron. |

The 461-x Corvette heads were
cast at the Saginaw MI foundry. All casting dates from this foundry will
end in a single digit year date (0) for 1960. If a casting has two
digits (60) for 1960 it was most likely from the Tonawanda NY foundry.
There was a foundry St. Catherin's Canada, I believe their casting date
had the double digit date code and had a different appearance. (I need
to find an example of this casting date) |
