315 HP Engine 1961 283-CI with 315-HP Fuel Injected engine
Fuel Injection unit
461-X heads The 3782461 casting number was first used in 1961 and was the main reason for the increase in horse power for the 1961 model year. There was experimental aluminum heads for the 1960 model year that would have increased the horse power for that model year, but problems with the aluminum head delayed it's introduction and the 1961 version was changed to cast iron.
461-X date code The 461-x Corvette heads were cast at the Saginaw MI foundry. All casting dates from this foundry will end in a single digit year date (0) for 1960. If a casting has two digits (60) for 1960 it was most likely from the Tonawanda NY foundry. There was a foundry St. Catherin's Canada, I believe their casting date had the double digit date code and had a different appearance. (I need to find an example of this casting date)
461-X symbol The X symbol is located on the bottom end of the heads.
461 number on bottom of the head The 461 Number is located on the bottom end of the head
